Description:
Three-dimensional print in the form of a scrapbook with many cut-out and applied printed images

Label Text:
From the exhibtion Jane Hammond, Digital and Analog, February 1 - May 29, 2022
Across this work, butterflies abound alongside other specimens taken from nature, such as feathers and leaves. In contrast, manufactured items are also scattered throughout—matchbooks, puzzle pieces, Chinese fortunes, and paperclips. Closer inspection reveals that each pasted item is actually a reproduction, created through pigmented inkjet and woodblock printing. Hammond, however, has meticulously cut out each reproduction by hand and pasted it to the paper support.

Through the artist’s mastery of both digital and analog techniques, Scrapbook conveys the appearance and physical aspects of a real scrapbook. Rendered in low relief, Hammond has recreated the spine and multiple pages of the scrapbook, plus the curvature of the open page. This fervor for likeness and imagery is what propels Hammond’s passion for her ever-expanding visual vocabulary.
