Description:
Silver bow-type sugar tongs with the touchmark "J. Farr" in a conforming rectangle for Joseph Farr (1775-1845) on the inside of each of the long slender stems terminating in plain, bowl-shaped cups, and engraved "E.H.S." for a member of the Silver family. These were purchased by the dealer from the Rectory of Rev. Silver of Roxbury, Massachusetts. Joseph Farr was born in Cummington, Massachusetts,and moved to Manilius, NY, where he became a multi-faceted craftsman as a goldsmith, silversmith, clockmaker and instrument maker. Farr compasses are among the holdings of The Buffalo Historical Society, The Wisconsin Historical Society, and The Henry Ford Museum.
