Description:
The floral embroidered shawl was given to Mary Catherine Dixwell Wigglesworth (1855-1951) when she was about 10. According to an accompanying note written by her daughter Marian Epes Wigglesworth Brown, it was brought from China by one of her uncles (George Basil Dixwell of Augustine Heard & Co. or John James Dixwell) and Mary Catherine Dixwell (maiden name) wore it as a sash with her dresses." Long narrow white silk scarf (or shawl) of figured silk embroidered with polychrome silk yarns at ends with floral roundel surrounded with flowers and another narrow band of flowers. Both ends finished with knotted on silk fringe.
