Description:
Woman’s bonnet which illustrates the kinds of fashionable headwear worn by women in the Connecticut River valley in the 1860s. This example is shaped with wire, lined with gridded plastic like material. Decorated with white artificial (silk?) flowers, off-white pleated tulle, and lace bands. Bonnet fastens with two cream-colored silk ribbons each 1 1/8” wide. Worn by a member of the Hawley family of Farmington and West Hartford, Connecticut. H: 3.5” (16” with lace ribbons).
