Description:
Letter from Samuel Partridge, military commander, Connecticut Valley, to Governor John Winthrop of Connecticut, dated August 10, 1703, which brings us into the world of the New England frontier. When Colonel Samuel Partridge wrote to Connecticut Governor John Winthrop, he feared for the safety of Deerfield. As the leader of the frontier militia, Partridge sought an additional fifty or sixty men to protect Connecticut River Valley settlements. Having received reports, including one from Mohawks, of a hostile body of French and Indians advancing on New England from Quebec, Partridge realized that Deerfield was highly vulnerable. His letter predicts the attack six months before it occurred on February 29, 1704.
