Description:
Powder horn inscribed: “William / Paterson / 1759” of Stratford, Connecticut, which was probably made at Lake George, New York. The unidentified carver of the Patterson horn created a bold composition of three detailed components centered by the wonderful sailing ship racing with the fish around it. The horn shares some details, like the use of dots and a bold composition, with the work of the so-called Lyme Carver. William Patterson, Jr. served during the 1759 campaign. He also served in the 1758 and 1761 campaigns.
