Description:
Tilt-top candlestand supported on a tripod base composed of thinly sawn legs, undercut at the knee, that terminate in snake feet, below a turned shaft ornamented with an urn below a tapering reeded column flanked by composite rings and surmounted by a rectangular block that incorporates a pintle hinge secured between the cleats in the underside of the pivoting oval top. The stand is significant because it represents the workmanship of an important circle of central Massachusetts craftsmen, including Nathan Lumbard (1777-1847) of Brimfield and Sutton. The top is mahogany and the base is cherry.
