Description:
Images painted on pith paper produced small, bright pictures with the glowing qualities of enamel or embroidery, and a surface that reflected light more like a mosaic than the smooth flatness of a sized, manufactured paper. Many sets of images were brought back to America by seamen, merchants, and travelers. Drawing on pith paper of a Chinese boat with many oars, two masts with rolled up sails, the ship is decorated in red, green and yellow colors, there is a red pennant off the stern, the masts have a blue and a red pennant, there are four men on the boat, the water is colored green. Conserved at WACC, partially restored, large losses to the bottom.
