Description:
Images painted on pith paper produced small, bright pictures with the glowing qualities of enamel or embroidery, and a surface that reflected light more like a mosaic than the smooth flatness of a sized, manufactured paper. Many sets of images were brought back to America by seamen, merchants, and travelers.Drawing on pith paper of a Chinese shallow draft sampan; the water is colored green, the ship is painted brown, it has two masts with rolled up sails, there are three flags flying on the ship, in yellow, green, and blue, there are two men on the boat. Very damaged.
