Description:
Images painted on pith paper produced small, bright pictures with the glowing qualities of enamel or embroidery, and a surface that reflected light more like a mosaic than the smooth flatness of a sized, manufactured paper. Many sets of images were brought back to America by seamen, merchants, and travelers. Drawing on pith paper of a Chinese junk; the water is colored gray, the ship is brightly painted in black, red, and yellow, the boat appears to be decorated with colorful banners, flags, and streamers. there are two men on the boat. Conserved at WAAC, partially restored, large areas of loss.
