Label Text:
Shah Abbas I (1588-1629) was a patron of both business and the arts. This 17th century Persian textile fragment is from a church in Poland, which is evidence of Shah Abbas' widespread trade in Europe. During his reign he also established royal workshops and brocade artists were encouraged to migrate to Persia and revive this ancient art.
