harimaze cut from vertical ōban sheet; kachō-e; sumizuri-e; ishizuri

Label Text:
This print is signed at lower-right Risshō or Ryūshō (both are possible pronunciations), a named employed by Hiroshige II starting ca. 1865. The seal reads "Ryūsai," a name inherited from his master, Hiroshige I, ca. 1859.

This style of print, known as "ishizuri" is meant to evoke the appearance of a stone rubbing. A harimaze print, this image shared a larger sheet with other prints, which were meant to be separated.
