Artist's Statement:
Freedom is the ability to move. Without movement there is no Life, just stagnation that leads eventually to death. The ability to move the body, the mind (freedom of thought), and the heart are the key ingredients of what it means to be free to me. Painting is my way to make sense of the world. I use the act of painting (creating an image) to work through what I am seeing in my world. The painted image gives me the ability to look at the harsh realities of life, but at the same time my imagination gives me freedom and escape. I invite the viewer to work through these horrific times with me. Hopefully we both will find freedom and peace.
La libertad es la capacidad de moverse. Sin movimiento no hay vida, solo estancamiento que lleva a la muerte. La capacidad de mover el cuerpo, la mente (la libertad del pensamiento) y el corazón es el elemento esencial de lo que para mí significa ser libre. La pintura es mi manera de darle sentido al mundo. Pinto, creo una imagen, para procesar lo que veo a mi alrededor. La imagen me otorga la capacidad de afrontar las crueles realidades de la vida, pero, al mismo tiempo, mi imaginación artística me permite escapar y ser libre. Invito a la audiencia a acompañarme a lidiar y hacer las paces con estos tiempos horribles. Espero que encontremos libertad y tranquilidad.
