Description:
A monochrome red bowl with simple foot ring with white rim; grey-blue glaze in interior and under foot.

Label Text:
Like the apple-green vessel, this bowl’s rich red ground resulted from the addition of copper to the glaze. These types of glazes date back to the Tang dynasty (618–907) and saw application in subsequent ceramic forms. The vessel’s base has a vitreous glaze seen on blue-and-white wares, and a six-character Yongzheng period date mark executed in underglaze cobalt blue. The opaque and slightly textured monochrome glaze, often referred to as “sacrificial” or “fresh red,” extends from the white rim to the foot of the exterior in exquisite contrast with the porcelain interior.
