Description: Printed bill head for John G. Creagh, Dealer in Cabinet Furniture. The bill head is printed and written in ink with the following information: on the left hand side, "Directly opposite the/ Springfield Hotel,/May be found a very/ large and splendid as-/sortment of/ CABINET FURNITURE,/ CHAIRS, LOOKING/ GLASSES, MATTRASS/-ES, FEATHERS, &c. &c./together with every/ other article usually/ kept in a similar es-/tablishment." and "Springfield, Dec. 11, 1840/ Mr./Mrs. S A. C. Merriam/ Bought of JOHN G. CREAGH/ Dealer in Cabinet Furniture,/ [in ink] 1 small Rock Chair @ $1.00/ Charged on account/ John G. Creagh/ Mr. Thos. B. Haskins or Hawkins [?]" On the reverse of the bill, is more writing in ink, "J. G. Creagh/ C 81 [?]/ Dec. 16, 1840/ and some other math figures. Historic Deerfield owns a piece of labeled Creagh furniture in the collection. 2017.23 It is possible that John Creagh was born in Cork, Ireland, and immigrated to Springfield, MA. More geneaological research will need to be done.
