Description:
High post bedstead with an arched head board. The two head posts have tapered columns and straight hexagonal legs. The two foot posts are topped with a capital, over tapering columns, stepped molded rings, and short cabriole legs terminating in large carved ball-and-claw feet. The posts are linked with bed rails drilled for rope and fitted with rectangular tester frame (probably a replacement) that receives the tops of the posts. The bedstead is significant for its high quality and should be compared with the Boston bedstead (60.312.1) in the Cluett Collection.
