Label Text:
This triptych is composed of vertical ōban panels and is signed at middle-right "Kiyochika." Immediately below the signature is the red artist's seal, which reads "Kiyochika." While this print bears no publisher's marks, other examples (Lesserman-Adler Collection, EX88.11.20abc) indicate that the publisher's identifying information was printed on the left margin of the left panel. The Mead's version, however, has been trimmed. The left margin of the right panel also shows evidence of possible trimming.

The text at top right identifies the Russian scouts as Cossacks, hence their uniforms and fur hats.
