Label Text:
As a physical assemblage of elements from different contexts, collage also appealed to sculptors. In his work, Stankiewicz welded together discarded mass-produced metal objects, such as pedals, joints, and gaskets, to forge visual associations and create new, lively compositions. Infusing Machine People with a subtle sense of irony and humor, Stankiewicz upended the traditional notion of sculpture as something heroic or ideal.
