Label Text:
This print is signed at lower-right "Katsukawa Shunzan ga" ('drawn by Katsukawa Shunzan'). The actor is identified at Sawamura Sōjūrō by the text at upper-left. His role is also inscribed but has not yet been deciphered. He is also identified by his "mon," or actor's crest, which is visible on his right shoulder. Additionally, Sawamura was known for his "tachiyuki" (the archetypal "good guy") roles, so this depiction is in keeping with his notoriety.
