Label Text:
This print is signed "Chikanobu" at lower left of of the left panel and bears no artist's seal. It should be noted that this is a somewhat unusual signature for Chikanobu; more typically, he signed his works "Yōshū Chikanobu." The publisher's seal, immediately to the left of the signature in the rectangular cartouche, identifies the publisher as Sakai Tōbei, about whom very little is known, and the date of publication as February, 1904 (Meiji 37). The triptych is also marked "11" in kanji at the lower-right of the right panel.

The figure astride his horse in the central panel is identified by the small cartouche above his head, which reads "First Lieutenant Kano" ('Kano chūi').
