This triptych is signed at lower left of the left panel "Ōju Toshihide e" ('a picture by Toshihide by special request') and bears the artist's seal in red. The publisher's details are printed vertically descending along the lefthand margin of the left panel, which has been trimmed, partially obscuring the publisher's name. However, based on other impressions and the address given, it is clear the publisher of this print was Akiyama Buemon. Additionally, the publisher's seal gives February, 1904 (Meiji 37) as the month of publication.
The narrative inscription at top-right of the right panel, written in the yellow cartouche beneath the title, identifies this as the Battle of Chemulpo, which took place off the coast of Incheon, Korea (known to the Japaneses as Jinsenkō). The inscription also mentions the exact date, February 9, and the two Russian ships being attacked: the Varyag and the Korietz.
