Label Text:
Another edition of this print is held by the Boston MFA (2000.253a–c), which could additionally represent another state of the design, given the variant coloring in the smoke of the left panels. Like many of the prints in this album, it is possible that this design is a deluxe edition and could have been printed following the end of the Sino-Japanese War, specifically for inclusion in an album. Due to extensive trimming of the margins, no publisher's marks survive on this example, so it is not possible to assign a definitive attribution at this point. Based simply on condition and sharpness of line, however, this impression seems to come from earlier in the run. - BB, 2014
