Label Text:
Another impression of this print, which may be an earlier edition, is held by the Boston MFA (2000.380.12a–c), and is dated to September, 1894. This impression has been dated to ca. 1895 based on its inclusion in this album, which contains other later editions and states of earlier designs, and is thus presumed to have been published and/or complied following the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese War. It is possible, however, that this impression is from the original 1894 edition, though there are no surviving publisher's marks to support this attribution. - BB, 2014
