Label Text:
The headdress, the elaborately braided hairstyle, and the high base suggest that this figurine represents a goddess, possibly Demeter. She holds a cloth fillet across her body, a ritual object associated with acts of consecration. This type of figurine has been found only in the province of Boeotia, the “bread-basket” of ancient Greece.
