Label Text:
The Mead's most recent acquisition of work by Mazur, Autumn, attests to his mastery of gestural abstraction to suggest nature's colorful dynamism. Layers of emphatic brushstrokes suggest swirling leaves and whispering grasses in an astute evocation of fall colors--one of New England's most stunning attractions.

This painting was donated to the Mead by poet Gail Mazur, the artist's wife, who Mazur met while studying at Amherst; although the artist himself had begun to express his desire to give the painting to the Mead, where it was already on loan, in 2008.

MD, 2013
