Description:
This is station no. 8 from a series jointly designed by Hiroshige, Kunisada, and Kuniyoshi. A vertical nishiki-e print devided into three part. The upper left part has the story. The upper right part has the title "Tokaido Gojusan Tsui." The lower part depicts an armed man with a long sword in hand, looking at the red lightening in front of a river with swirling waves going upward; another man's feet are visible behind the central figure. Hiratsuka - the legend of the Banyu river; the man depicted is identified as Inage Saburo Shigenari, retainer of Shogun Yoritomo.
