Description:
Plate, London, England, c. 1790. Tin-glazed earthenware (delftware) decorated in blue, purple, yellow, green, red; Painted in blue, manganese purple, red, green and yellow on a pale bluish glaze. A stylized petalled flower is within an octagonal 'spider's web' in the center, the outer edge embellished with stylized flower buds with scrolling tendrils. On flange, four sections of spider's web alternating with triple-flowered stem. Under rim, three stilt marks.this pattern is called "Ann Gomm" for a similarly decorated set of plates with inscription "Ann Gomm" and the date of "1793". Shards of this pattern have been excavated on the Lambeth Pottery site, located in the High Street South London England, and date to circa 1790 period. They are typically painted in colors with a central rosette within a foliate and scroll border. Condition: Some chips along the edge. On the underside of this plate are labels for "Jonathan Horne Antiques", "Philip Kassebaum Collection," and the number "8."
