Description:
Inkwell, lead-glazed, cream-colored earthenware (creamware). Squat cylindrical inkwell with overhanging top, decorated on the top with rouletted decoration including bands of leaves, dots, beads, leaves, dots, and beads; the sides of the inkwell have been decorated with a top and bottom band of rouletted dots, in between is a joined band of light blue applied clay decoration of fruiting and leafy grapevine border, the upper edge and the middle of the shoulder below three pierced circular pen holes, the top raised circular inkwell aperature above further raised and rouletted border, and the whole supported on four lion's-paw feet. On the base is a paper label inscribed, "A.S./Poss. Neale/ 1820" and the number "330.1948" typed on a paper label under old tape. Condition: the feet and central well rim with minor chips; the beadwork at the edge with a miniscule chip, and the removable inkpot and cover missing.
