Description:
Pair of colorless lead glass, blown into a multi part mold or "blown three mold," Pattern G.II-18, pontil mark on base, lower register has straight vertical ribbing, the middle section has diamonds, the shoulders have rib molding, the neck has three applied bands of glass which are tooled with three applied pulley rings with rigaree decoration, the lip is broad and flat, and the interior of the decanter has been lightly ground to receive a stopper, the stopper is a hand pressed design of a large circular flat disk with diamond diapering and a milled edge, the decanter stopper has extra glass extending beyond the mold and there are also several chips to the rim, (this is a very unusual and rare decanter stopper, the color of the stoppers is slightly more yellow than the gray of the body - they could be replacements but period), this type of decanter with applied neck ring may be referred to in a New England Glass Company advertisement in the Boston Commercial Gazette of March 27, 1820, that included "23 packages quart pully ring Decanters, plain and moulded, with ball and prest stoppers."
