Description:
Thrown red earthenware flask with an oval flat base, body is oval shaped narrowing to a spout at the top, spout is circular, rounded and outturned feature, the body has been splashed with manganese on an orange colored ground, covered in a lead glaze. Inscription on the base reads in black ink, “Col./ Hartford/ Conn. /1905” and in red paint “35” and “2” This object was originally in the collection of Burton N. Gates. Gates collection notecard for this object reads: "Flask./ Col. Russell?/ Hartford, Ct. 1906/ Red clay: Black splash decoration reddish brown/ glaze. 6.5 in."
