Description:
Circular drape molded, shallow dish with coggled rim, decorated on the interior with white slip using a slip cup (with a single and three quills), pattern at top is a twig or flower, in center are three lines of twisted slip, at the bottom is a twig or flower; the underside of the dish is not glazed, inscribed in ink on the reverse, "Col. Washington/June 1910." and the red number "60". This object was originally in the collection of Burton N. Gates. Notecard from the Gates papers reads: "Pie plate./ Col. Wash. DC. 1910. Red clay: Cream slip decoration 9 in." Condition: good condition, crackle to glaze, loss to the slip decoration in one area, some abrasion to the glaze, minor losses to the rim.
