Description:
Round, straight-sided crock with thicker rim, flat base; crock is decorated with splashes of manganese black decoration on a red ground and incised decoration of multiple wavy lines in a band around the crock and the same lines in a straight pattern below; marked in red paint underneath, "78" and in pencil is inscribed, "Col. 1910/ Albany. " Condition: the crock has been broken and repaired, there are some salts issues, and the glaze is very crackled. Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. According to his note card for object #78, it reads: "Crock/ Col. Albany, NY, 1910. Red clay: black splash decoration. Incised rings and wavy lines or band. Fine clay. 7.5 in diam. 5 in. deep."
