Description:
At this time it is very difficult to identify most black glazed earthenware as it was made by potters in all regions of the United States. Large, deep thrown, circular redware bowl, possibly used as a punch bowl, bowl has evidence of throwing marks or rings on the interior of the bowl, the exterior of the bowl has been smoothed, the bowl is covered with a dark brown manganese glaze which is slightly lustrous on the inside and out, the base of the bowl is smooth and unglazed, Condition: there are hairline cracks at the rim of the bowl, there has been glaze loss along the rim of the bowl, in the well of the bowl there are several circular losses or chips which expose the red clay, there is a loss to the rim of the bowl. Origin: New England, c. 1780-1810.
