Description:
Large, drape molded, oblong loaf dish, oval in shape with deep sides, coggled rim, and smoothed, unglazed back of dish; the well of the dish is decorated with white slip using a three chamber slip cup, the borders have squiggled lines, the interior has three repeating motifs of three lines (a plume?) and three dots at the top and bottom; and in the center is a three line hill and valley motif; on the reverse in ink is the inscription: "Col. Dec. 1914/ Philadelphia/ Penna?" Presumed to be a part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Condition: edge chips and small cracks, lots of scratches on the interior glaze, Origin: Pennsylvania, c. 1840.
