Description:
Circular, deep dish with round, flat bottom and steep sides, rim of dish is curved, surface of dish is light tan to brown with some dark brown specks of manganese or iron in the glaze; the rim of dish is decorated with a squiggled band of white/yellow slip, the inner rim of the dish has a band of slip-decorated swags, the exterior of the dish is unglazed; incised into the underside of th base is an "M" or possibly a "W", some incised tool marks on the back of the dish near the rim, Moravian origin, either Pennsylvania or Maryland, c. 1840-1860. Excellent condition, small circular glaze loss on inner side of dish.
