Description:
Chinese export porcelain oval deep dish decorated in underglaze cobalt blue enamel in the “True Fitzhugh” pattern - which includes a combination of butterflies, diamond diapering, fish roe, grecian keys, and floral designs in its pattern. There are four reserves of underglaze cobalt blue decoration on the well which depict different flowers, some have bound scrolls and other have potted plants. In the center is the crest (a paschal lamb with a flag resting on its shoulder) of John Roberts of Bonington, who was Chairman of the English East India Company. Several services were made for this family, and John Roberts lived in Canton and Macau for many years. This service was possibly made for him as a retirement gift. The piece is in excellent condition.
