Description:
Silver cup (unmarked) inscribed "J Rotch / to / L Plummer" on one side of the scroll handle, which belonged to the Plummer family of Lyme, New Hampshire. This barrel-shaped cup is fashioned from wrought silver with a soldered disk of silver for the base, and has applied bands of stamped decoration on the top and bottom rims: the stamped decoration on the top rim is a repeating series of flowers (daisies), and the lower rim band has palmettes or anthemion leaves. The handle, which could be a later replacement, is cast with a scrolling S-shape with a thumbpiece and five small, overlaping V-shaped segments at the top of the handle.
