Description:
Child's printed cotton dress, with center back placket opening, trimmed with green wool braid. The dress has a gathered, rounded neckline, trimmed with braid. On either side of the shoulder, extending down to the center of the waistline in front, is a self lapel, also trimmed with braid. The lapel-like effect extends around to the back, where there is one decorative button on each shoulder, and finally to a collar at the back neckline. The dress opens with a CB placket 9 1/2" long. The bodice has one side seam on each side, 2 1/4" long. There are short sleeves, gathered on the outside at both the top and bottom. The sleeves are attached at the bottom half in either a running or a back stitch. The top half of each sleeve is attached below the collar, but on top of the armhole there. Each sleeve has two underarm seams, each about 2" long. The high waistline consists of a matching band in between the bodice and skirt seam. The front of the waistline, between the lapels, is especially gathered, providing the fashionable c. 1840 appearance. Waistline is secured by strings. The skirt is gathered into waistline all around, and fitted by a drawstring. Skirt is made upof two widths of fabric, joined by a seam at each side. The skirt is seamed at the bottom, with two tucks, each 1 1/2" long, finishing the skirt. Two rows of matching braid finish the skirt decoration at the hem. The entire dress is unlined. Flat-felled seams in bodice and armscyes. Evidence of belt loops on either bodice, near seam.
