Label Text:
This eighteenth-century lacquered desk comes from the collection of Dwight D. Morrow—Amherst College Class of 1895 and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 1927 to 1930—and his wife Elizabeth. Through their writings and their support of traveling exhibitions, the Morrows helped to popularize Mexican folk art in the United States. Their children donated the Morrows’ own important collection of more than 250 works of Mexican popular art to the College in 1955.
