Description:
One of a set of seven stenciled chairs consisting of six side chairs (see 0027A) and one armchair. They combine elements of Hitchcock-type chairs (the pillow top, cornucopia back and busily turned arm supports) and earlier "fancy" chairs (the horseshoe-shaped seat and more simply turned legs). They are painted yellow with olive stripings and scrolls, and the stenciled decoration is executed in both gilded bronze and silver. The chairs were in the EH Williams 1838 probate inventory: "9 Dining Chairs 1/6 ... 2.25."
