Label Text:
Celebration of the Anointing and Coronation of Their Imperial Majesties. View of the Area in Front of Notre-Dame, and of the Decoration Erected in Front of the Main Entrance to the Church at the Moment When Their Majesties Dressed in Their Imperial Ornaments Are Received and Complemented by the Clergy of Paris
Combining ancient and medieval elements, a Gothic porch of
painted wood was erected in front of the grand portal. Alongside imperial emblems and other symbolic figures, effigies of Clovis and Charlemagne were applied to the columns to create associations with the Merovingian and Carolingian dynasties. - English translation
