Description:
Chinese export porcelain 22-piece teaset decorated in blue, gold, green, red with "Libertas" in a ribbon scroll over the monograms "JC" "EJ" flanked by acanthus leaves, which the dealer attributed to the Codmas family of Boston. To date, a Codmas family of Boston has not been identified, nor is there a member of the prominent Codman family of Boston (if Cadmas was a typo) that married a "EJ" during the period that this service was made. There was a Codmas family listed as land owners in Essex County, New Jersey, starting in the mid 18th century, but no infomation is currently known about them. The set consists of an oval teapot, helmet-shaped cream pot, waste bowl, 4 breakfast cups, 4 tea cups, 6 larger saucers, and 5 smaller saucers. See also four plates from the same set (HD 2013.12.1-.4).
