Description:
Miniature silver salver or tazza with a molded edge on the circular top supported on a high, molded-edge base, which is marked "W.H" in a rectangle three times on the back. This salver has been attributed to Boston silversmith William Homes Sr. (1716/17-1785), but no other small salvers are known to have been made by him or by his son, William Homes, Jr. (1742-1825) who also used the "WH" mark. There are several, contemporary English makers who also used a similar "WH" mark. The form of the salver follows that of full-size salvers, but its exact usage is not clear. Similary-scaled objects were often used as toys.
