Description: Silver apple-shaped teapot (unmarked) with a flush-mounted cover with a 5-segment hinge and a wooden button finial; band of engraving around the edge of the body's rim; wooden C-shaped handle with two cast silver handle sockets, the upper with an acanthus leaf on top and scrolls on the side; cast S-curved spout with a a ribbed band midway round; and cast one-piece stepped circular foot The pot is engraved with the initials "G / L S" and scratched "Pearson" on the base. Although unmarked, this teapot is attributed to Thomas Hammersley (1727-1781) who was working in NYC from 1756-1769. HD also has a similar marked Hammersley teapot (HD 54.468), which Jenine Skerry questioned in 1992 if it was made by a provincial English maker because of the apple shape (rarely found in NY).
