Description:
Queen Anne handkerchief, or corner, table. When the triangular drop leaf is down, the table can fit in a corner; when the rear drop leaf is opened and supported on the sliding leg, the table is square. There are three plain aprons, with a small drawer with a brass knob on one side; over four cabriole legs ending in pad on disc feet. Folding corner tables are rare, and this example is unusual with the drawer. Most are attributed to the Boston area, primarily because of their leg and foot characteristics and documented history. The table descended through the Higginson family of Boston and Deerfield. The proper right back rail and drawer bottom are white pine, the proper right bottom of the sliding leg is red maple, and the proper left front leg is mahogany.
