Description:
Gershom Jones apprenticed with John Danforth, probably from about 1765 to 1772. In 1774, Jones started a business with Samuel Hamlin, which lasted until 1781. In 1784 Jones advertised "at the sign of the Pewter Platter near Mr. Jacob Whitman's Hay Scales", and he later moved to the corner of Westminster and Pleasant Streets. In 1806 he entered into business with his sons James and Samuel, but this only lasted a few months. Basin, attributed to Gersham Jones (1751-1809), Providence, Rhode Island, 1774-1809. Pewter. Stamped in base of basin, a circular spread eagle mark surrounded by stars. Cast and lathe trimmed pewter basin, deep bowl, steep sides, molded rim.
