Description:
Thrown red earthenware jug with an ovoid shape, flat base, swelled shoulders, narrow neck and small circular spout, unglazed on the exterior, and glazed on the interior. Painted in red paint on the bottom of jug, “11.” and the pencil inscription “Col. Clinton/ 1950” This object was originally in the collection of Burton N. Gates. Condition: manufacturing scar on the side of the jug. Original note card in the Gates collection reads: "Jug or bottle with no handle./ col. Clinton Mass. 1910. Glazed inside only. Red clay. 4.5 in. high. 2 incised/ cuts midway./ attributed to Sterling."
