Description:
Thrown pottery pipkin or drink warmer, circular container with spout and top edge is stepped to hold a lid which does not survive, a handle is attached on the side, handle is formed like a top of a bottle with a rounded lip, decorated in a yellowish glaze on the exterior and a white glaze on the interior. Attached to the underside of the pot is a paper label with red borders, written in ink is “Bot. Phila. Dec/1914. (Osborne)/ Attributed/ N. J. Product.” And in red paint, “198” in a circle. Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard reads, " Handled & covered casserole Stoneware with yellowish brown glaze. Green cast./ 4" x 5" base. Turned handle./ Bot Osborn, Dec. 1914., Phil. pronounced a New Jersey product."
