Description:
"Joshua Kendall," attributed to owner. Joshua Kedall served in the 3rd Connecticut Regiment under General Heath at the Battle of Stoney Point on July 16, 1779. The decoration and precise calligraphy of this horn are of the highest quality. The ornament is profusly and carefully worked and in much the same format as the finest needlework. This horn represents the nonmilitary themes of many horns carved during the later years of the Revolution. It is one of neatest examples of soldier's art that has been seen, exhibiting an extremely talented but totally unsophisticated style of craftsmanship.
