Description:
Powder horn inscribed "Samuel Webster..." and attributed to Jacob Gay. Samuel Webster served in the New Hampshire Regiment on July 15, 1777. His company was discharged on January 7 & 8, 1778. This horn has fine patriotic cartouches and exceptionally fine and elaborate rococo scrolls that surround a creature that seems to be a cross between a rampant lion and a rampant horse. The legend SUCCESS TO THE AMERICAN ARMS surrounds the cartouche and there is a flintlock musket in an open panel at its crest. The expertly carved double-line block lettering has crosshatched shading and resembles that of the Connor Horn (#94), HD 2005.20.64.
